In Metairie, LA Sr. M. Joanne conducted a Catechesis of the Good Shepherd training session. Twenty teachers came to St. Angela Merici Grade School for the workshop. Five came for the refresher course or to finish presentations. All of the teachers thoroughly enjoyed the day and said they learned a lot.
Sr. M. Joanne displays a gift she received from the teachers.
On June 19th all of the Sisters in the Western Region gathered for a jubilee celebration. Six Sisters were marking significant anniversaries in religious life: Sr. Eleanor Ann and Sr. Campion - 60 years; Sr. Therese - 75 years; Sr. Mary Eileen and Sr. Renee - 80 years; and Sr. Agnette 85 years. (more about the jubilarians can be found on pages 10-11 of the Summer 2016 issue of Bread Broken - go to the "publications" page on this website and click on the cover of the magazine.)
After breakfast the jubilarians posed for a photo near their cakes: Sr. Therese, Sr. Eleanor Ann, Sr. Campion, Sr. Mary Eileen and Sr. Agnette.
Before breakfast each Jubilarian received a corsage.
After breakfast the jubilarians went to the community room to look over the cards and gifts they would open later in the day.
Some of Sr. Agnette's relatives made the journey from Michigan to attend her jubilee celebration.
Arriving at St. Joseph Church for Mass the jubilarians are greeted by family, friends and parishioners.
During Mass the jubilarians renewed their vows.
Soaring temperatures did not dampen these jubilarians' joyful spirits (but the heat did affect the camera a bit.)
After Mass the jubilarians and their families and friends enjoyed a reception at St. Joseph School.
Late that afternoon all of the Sisters prayed a special Jubilee Vespers in the chapel of Sacred Heart Convent. A festive supper and an evening recreation followed.
In Wilmette, IL Foundress' Day was celebrated on May 7th instead of on Blessed Pauline's feastday (April 30). Some of the Chicago-area Companions joined the Sisters at Sacred Heart Convent for a celebration. Friendship, food and fun were the order of the day!
In St. Louis
Sister Mary Ann E. leads the nursing staff in "A Blessing of Hands" prayer at St. Anthony's Medical Center. The prayer service is one of the activities during "Nurses' Week".
"March Matters" and "Moments in May" come right after each other on this page. What happened in April? Something wonderful! To see it please visit the Companions' News page on this website.
