EARTHQUAKE IN CHILE
On February 27, 2010, at 3:34 a.m. local time, an earthquake of 8.8 magnitude struck just off the coast of Chile. Although the epicenter was offshore, the earthquake caused major damage to several cities nearby.
Scenes of devastation were recorded in Concepción and Santiago; many other smaller cities were damaged also. Waves from the resulting tsunami struck Talcahuano. Tremors and aftershocks from this earthquake were felt in cities in Argentina and Peru.

The Sisters of Christian Charity have ministered in Chile since 1873. Today they minister in San Bernardo, Santiago, San Fernando, Cauquenes, Concepción, Chiguayante, Talcahuano, Valdivia, Puerto Varas, Puerto Montt and Ancud.

It was understandable that, moments after hearing of the earthquake, the thoughts of many SCCs throughout the world turned to the fate of our Sisters in Chile.
