SOCIAL JUSTICE

SISTERS OF CHRISTIAN CHARITY STATEMENT ON HUMAN TRAFFICKING

On fire with the LOVE of Christ
and impelled to carry Christ’s LIGHT into the world
by becoming living memories of Christ’s LIFE,
the Sisters of Christian Charity have heard the cries
of a world plagued by destruction and broken relationships.

Conscious of our own dignity and giftedness as women,
we strive to respond to situations
in which the dignity of women is violated.

Therefore, we commit ourselves
 – at local, national, and international levels –
to awareness, advocacy, and action
on behalf of victims of human trafficking.

Through collaboration and networking, we will strive
to bring Christ’s light into the darkness of those affected
by this modern-day slavery, especially women and children.

Give us the wisdom and courage to stand in solidarity with them, that together we will find ways to the freedom that is your gift to all of us.  Amen.

In 2005 peace poles were erected on the grounds of Sacred Heart Convent and the Province Center. The words "May Peace Prevail on Earth" are written in four different languages - German, English, Spanish and Vietnamese - on the faces of the pole.

We will be pro-active in our stance on and promotion of a culture of non-violence and peace.

     •  Our convents will violence-free zones.
     •  There will be no violence against persons: no violent
         words, criticism or verbal abuse.
     •  There will be a voice for reform of any government,
organization or institution whose rules or practices
do violence to groups or individuals.
     •  There will be respect and love for our planet and all
its creatures. We will work to eradicate violence
against and abuse of the earth and its creatures.
     •  We will speak out against the use and glorification of
violence in our media and in our culture.
     •  There will be a commitment to non-violent
         resolutions of conflict.
     •  There will be prudence, courtesy and respect of the
         opinions and ideas of others.

We will recognize that peace is the wholeness created by right relationships with God, oneself, other persons and other cultures.
