November 2011: Annual Gathering to Protest the SOA

In November 2011, two SCCs from the Eastern Province joined two SCCs from the Western Province outside the gates of Fort Benning. These four Sisters were part of a throng of people protesting the existence of the School of the Americas, and praying that it will soon be closed. Below is a slide show of their experiences.

When you are finished watching the slideshow, scroll down to read the SOA Watch Nonviolence Pledge

Our goal is to expose and close the School of the Americas/ WHINSEC and to resist the oppressive policies and systems that it represents.

SOA Watch Nonviolence Pledge

o   Together we envision a day in which a culture of peace with justice and respect and where all people will live together free from oppression.

o   We gather in a manner that reflects the world we choose to create.

o   We will promote an alternative to domination systems by acting with love, respect and love.

o   We will struggle for a world free from violence and we will use actions, words and symbols consistent with this struggle.

o   We will not use or instigate violence against any person.

o   We will promote the safety of ourselves and others through our actions and interactions.

o   We commit to recognize and to work, dismantle all forms of oppression in our personal relationships, local neighborhoods, globally and with Earth itself.

SISTERS OF CHRISTIAN CHARITY STATEMENT ON HUMAN TRAFFICKING

On fire with the LOVE of Christ
and impelled to carry Christ’s LIGHT into the world
by becoming living memories of Christ’s LIFE,
the Sisters of Christian Charity have heard the cries
of a world plagued by destruction and broken relationships.

Conscious of our own dignity and giftedness as women,
we strive to respond to situations
in which the dignity of women is violated.

Therefore, we commit ourselves
 – at local, national, and international levels –
to awareness, advocacy, and action
on behalf of victims of human trafficking.

Through collaboration and networking, we will strive
to bring Christ’s light into the darkness of those affected
by this modern-day slavery, especially women and children.

Give us the wisdom and courage to stand in solidarity with them, that together we will find ways to the freedom that is your gift to all of us.  Amen.
